A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away – last month anyway – my colleague and I had an article published in The Teaching Professor. The topic was how to make the higher education classroom more inclusive for speakers of all dialects, not just Mainstream American English.

As someone who’s spent my life moving around the United States, this is a topic that’s near and dear to my heart. Having always been the ‘new kid’, I quickly learned to adapt to any and all regional language variations. And, there are many across this country. Unfortunately, in a lot of places, speaking ‘differently’ just isn’t acceptable — especially in education. I’ve personally run into this on multiple occasions and in regions of the United States that are supposed to be more welcoming and inclusive.

Without further ado, here is the link to the published article: Click Here

As always, thank you for reading and I am very interested to hear your input on this topic.
